According to the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, Myanmar welcomes the highest number of tourists from Thailand, Viet Nam, and Mexico primarily through the Yangon International Airport. From March to May 2023, a total of 2,695 foreign tourists arrived in Myanmar via this airport, as stated by the report.
The majority of visitors originated from Thailand, Viet Nam, and Mexico, with additional tourists hailing from countries such as Indonesia, Spain, the United States, and the United Kingdom, among others.
The statistics reveal that 822 foreigners visited Myanmar in March, followed by 612 in April, and 1,261 in May. This data demonstrates the steady influx of tourists to the country during this period.

Air KBZ stated that it has introduced direct flights between Yangon and Loikaw.
The Yangon-Loikaw-Yangon direct flight started on 4 June.  It departed from Yangon at 7:30 am, arrived in Loikaw at 8:35 am, left Loikaw again at 8:55 am, and landed in Yangon at 10 am.
The flight ticket for this trip is K176,000, and there are flights on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Air KBZ also operates 11 flights for passengers such as Yangon, Mandalay, Hehoe, Tachilek, Thandwe, Kawthoung, NyaungU, Lashio, Nay Pyi Taw, Khamti, and Kalay.

Currently, 17 international airlines fly 21 million flights at Yangon International Airport, and more international airlines are expected to fly soon.

“Currently, 1 foreign airline is flying 21 international flights. As a domestic airline, three airlines fly domestic flights. Soon, there will be more international airlines connecting with Yangon Airport,” said an official from Yangon International Airport. Last April 26, 2023, the Xiamen-Rangoon direct flight of Xiamen Airlines, a Chinese airline, returned to Yangon International Airport.

At 5:30 PM local time on April 26th, Xiamen Airlines flight number MF 8669/70, which arrived from Shaman City, People’s Republic of China with 152 passengers, was welcomed at Yangon Airport and souvenirs were given to the arriving passengers. Xiamen Airlines between Yangon and Xiamen every Monday; There will be direct flights three times a week, every Wednesday and Friday.

It is reported that Singapore Airlines has started flying the Singapore-Rangoon-Singapore route using the new Boeing 737-8 aircraft as a new upgrade. On March 26, 2023, Singpore Airlines launched a Singapore-Rangoon-Singapore flight using a new Boeing 737-8 aircraft, with 106 passengers arriving. The flight started with 150 departing passengers, and passengers from Singapore Airlines and Yangon International Airport were welcomed with souvenirs.

The new type of Boeing 737-8 aircraft has become part of the Singapore Airlines fleet. With the new aircraft type upgrades, a better and safer air travel experience will be provided to the passengers. Singapore-Rangoon-Singapore flight via Yangon International Airport, arrival time 09-20 minutes local time; It is reported that the departure time will be 10-20 minutes daily.

Myanmar National Airlines, a state-owned airline, will operate the Yangon-Singapore-Rangoon flight once a day starting from April 23, Sunday, It will fly twice a day on Tuesdays and Fridays. Myanmar National Airlines is $380 for Yangon-Singapore round trip. The Yangon-Bangkok trip starts at $89 and the Yangon-Chiang Mai trip starts at $160.

MYANMAR National Airlines (MNA) will extend the Yangon-Dubai-Yangon flight commencing on 1 May.

The Yangon-Dubai-Yangon flight is operated every Sunday weekly and it will fly every Monday.

The Sunday flight will leave Yangon at 7:40 am Myanmar standard time and will arrive in Dubai at 10:55 am (local time in Dubai). The flight will depart Dubai at noon (local time in Dubai) and will arrive at Yangon at 8:15 pm MST.

The Monday flight will leave Yangon at 5:50 pm MST and will arrive at Dubai at 9:05 pm (local time in Dubai) but also will depart Dubai (local time in Dubai) at 11 pm and will arrive at Yangon at 7:15 am MST.

MNA sells a ticket at US$468.

A new Yangon-Chennai (formerly Madras)-Yangon route will be reportedly extended on 6 May by MAI Airlines.
The flight will run three times a week every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and will depart from the Yangon International Airport at 8 am and arrive in Chennai at 11:15 am (local time). The Chennai-Yangon flight number 8M 631 will depart from Chennai at 11:15 am and arrives in Yangon at 3:15 pm. The price of the flight ticket is currently set at US$260.
The MAI Airlines currently operates the Yangon-New Delhi-Yangon flight and the Yangon-Bodh Gaya flight three times a week, while the Yangon-Singapore-Yangon route is operated once a week.

According to the statement of the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok, those who will visit Thailand will be allowed to stay only for 14 visa-free days. Previously, visitors to Thailand were granted 45 days without having to apply for a visa in advance, but from 1 April onwards, they will be allowed to stay for 14 visa-free days. During the period from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023, foreigners with a visa-free agreement (including Myanmar) can stay up to 45 days and those with visas on arrival are allowed to stay for up to 30 days. However, those who want to stay longer can apply for a visa at the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, as only 14 visa-free days will be allowed starting 1 April.

The Ministry of Immigration and Population announced that foreigners who are residing and working with e-Visa (Business)in Myanmar can apply for stay extension and re-entry visa online. The e-stay extension was launched on 1 February and foreigners, who are residing and working with e-Visa (Business) in Myanmar, can apply for the stay extension and re-entry visa online. Myanmar has issued Tourist e-Visas and Business e-Visas electronically since 1 September 2014.

In 2022, the Yangon International Airport served a total of 2,149,202 arriving/departing passengers and 33,750 flights, according to the Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited (YACL), which takes responsibilities of services at the Yangon International Airport.

Continuous monitoring and notifying

YACL provides services in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). In cooperation with relevant partner organizations for running the international flights, it has been monitoring and notifying flight passengers of the arrival/departure restrictions required by the country of travel.

Increase of travellers
In 2021, the Yangon International Airport could serve 723,540 arrival/departure passengers and running of 20,991 flights. There were 133,483 arrival/departure passengers and 2,703 numbers of flights in January 2022. By the end of December, there were 275,658 arrival/departure passengers and 3,388 numbers of flights. As such, the Yangon International Airport gave services to more than two million passengers and more than 30,000 numbers of flights last year.

The Myanmar Travel Fair 2023 will be held at the Secretariat Office in Yangon starting from 27 to 29 January. The event will include over 40 booths of travel companies, airlines, hotels, restaurants, handicrafts, local products, local foods, insurance companies, healthcare companies and travel agencies from Thailand and Malaysia.

The event is organized by the Myanmar Tourism Entrepreneurs Association and aims at encouraging the revival of the tourism industry in January, the beginning of the tourist season, according to officials.
In the tourist season of 2023, vacationers are visiting Bagan, Popa, Pindaya, Inlay, Ngapali, Chaungtha, Ngwehsaung, Myeik Archipelago and historical pagodas.

The Myanmar Tourism Entrepreneurs Association and partnership associations together provide services for the pleasure trip to be quick and smooth. Visitors can participate in the lucky draw programme for inbound/outbound air tickets, hot-air balloon tickets and hotel tickets. The fair will be open from 9 am to 6 pm.

A Mandalay-Mangshi direct flight will be resumed on 21 January and will operate three days a week. Ruili Airlines has temporarily suspended flights due to the Covid-19 pandemic and will launch weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays starting from 21 January. The flight will leave from Mangshi at 5 pm and arrive in Mandalay at 6:10 pm. It will leave from Mandalay at 7:10 pm and arrive in Mangshi at 8:10 pm.
